New eco-innovative drinking water treatment based on one-step chemical technology using a multifunctional natural polymer.
This technology allows the elimination of all corrosive chemicals commonly used, such as inorganic coagulants (aluminium and iron based), polymers based on polyacrylamide and other dangerous neutralising agents. The result being an improvement in safety in the handling of products, the maintenance of treatment facilities and the quality of water for human consumption.
The main objective is to validate a new innovative and environmentally friendly technology which allows the production of drinking water without metals, chlorides, sulphates, or acrylamides in two pilot plants installed in two drinking water treatment plants (DWTP) located in Spain. The first located in Madrid, is “Colmenar Viejo”, with a daily production of almost 700,000 m3 and supplying 3.2 million inhabitants: The second is located in Valencia, “La Presa”, with a daily production of more than 94,000 m3 supplying 750,000 inhabitants.
In this case the chemicals are from the three-step treatment procedure:
They will be replaced by a single improve multifinctional organic polymer based on natural extracts. .
The project has a duration of 48 months.
The main actions of the project are as follows.
1. Adaptation of the reactor
2. Design, construction, and commissioning of the new pilot treatment plant
3. Pilot scale implementation
4. Replicability and transferability actions
5. Public awareness and dissemination of results
