Objectives
Main objective
The main objective is to validate a new innovative and environmentally friendly technology which allows the production of drinking water without metals, chlorides, sulphates, or acrylamides in two pilot plants installed in two drinking water treatment plants (DWTP) located in Spain. The first located in Madrid, is “Colmenar Viejo”, with a daily production of almost 700,000 m3 and supplying 3.2 million inhabitants: The second is located in Valencia, “La Presa”, with a daily production of more than 94,000 m3 supplying 750,000 inhabitants.
In this case the chemicals are from the three-step treatment procedure:
1) Coagulation
2) Flocculation
3) Neutralisation
They will be replaced by a single improve multifinctional organic polymer based on natural extracts. .
Secondary Objectives
To achieve improved coagulant / flocculant performance
- by neutralising loads and attracting suspended particles.
To achieve a multifunctional effect
treating the effluent in one step, substituting up to three different types of products and minimising the equipment required.
To completely eliminate the use of corrosive and dangerous inorganic coagulants
To protect against corrosion of metal parts
as it does not increase the conductivity of the medium.
To offer an environmentally friendly
non-corrosive and non-hazardous solution, which favours subsequent biological processes.
